IA4: Practice Professional Networking
Assignment 4
For this assignment, I attended an event that was held on
Tuesday (April 10th 2018) sponsoring by the Entrepreneurship Club. The event
was basically a meeting with Jordan Robarge, the founder of Revival Chili.
Revival Chili is a mission-driven food truck business with a sustainable focus.
Jordan basically spoke to the attendees about starting a business within the
food industry, while also being sustainable. He mentioned that he started to
work on the idea for Revival Chili as far back as the summer of 2015. His idea
was that the Chili food truck only hires ex-cons, and sources are produced from
local farms and mainly runs off solar panels.

I want to mention that the speaker’s mainly focus in his
speech was what was his goal of his business? And why he chose that only
ex-cons can work with him? So basically he explained that his main goal of his
business is to positively impact every
single person life that the business touches. Since he is also an ex-con, he
thinks that we should be able to provide jobs for people like him to make them
go back on track in life.
One of the questions that were asked in the event was: what
is the difficulties of starting a new company or business by yourself? And I think
his answer was related to one chapter of our course. So he responded to the
question by saying that one of the difficulties is when he wanted to get money
at first. He mentioned that he was saving some money but was not enough to buy
a food truck. So he met with lots of investors to explain his business, yet
none of them showed interests. As we took in the class, he said he wanted to
own his business, which I remember the term: Sole Proprietorship. However, he
couldn’t do that. So he switch to a Partnership business, which is “as we took
in class” a business that owned jointly by two or more people. After this, he
got his money and bought a truck and started his business.
The event was related to one article I found in Harvard
Business Review which is called “How to Get People to Accept a Tough Decision”
by David Maxfield. So basically it talks about the decision making when you
face a problem in the company. The speaker talked a little bit about some
issues he faced that required a fast and clear decisions. He recommended as the
article did, that if you had a problem you have first to assess the situation,
that is the most important thing to do. Moreover, he mentioned that YOU HAVE to
take a step, DO NOT let things get out of your hands.
